The personal qualities of volunteers that determine the effectiveness of volunteer work
Let us dwell on those qualities that are significant for volunteer work.
First of all, this is social activity - a personal quality in which “there is a creative, conscious attitude to the life of a society of social values, which finds its reflection in activities that ensure professional self-realization of a person”; a conscious attitude to the life of society, its social values, which is expressed in energy, efficiency, indifference to everything that happens around, the desire to wake up the initiative of people, to make them accomplices of the social pedagogical process. The activity of the individual is displayed in a diverse and multilateral activity aimed at transforming the world around us, changing his own mental world; on the formation of the necessary social qualities.
Tolerance of another, which means the desire (or, at least, consent) of the individual to recognize the very value of views that differ from her own, even those that are unacceptable in content to her; increased tolerance to any environmental influences by reducing sensitivity. Closely related to the development of self-esteem, respect for the dignity of another.
According to D. Zinoviev, this quality is expressed in the desire to achieve mutual respect, understanding and harmonization of diverse interests and views without applying pressure, mostly by methods of explanation and persuasion. The essential “characteristics of tolerance are respect, sympathy, kindness, restraint, tolerance, ability to communicate, ability to understand another, willpower, endurance”. Tolerance of one individual to another is based on non-discrimination and on such an understanding of a person as outstanding value, when “nothing can be higher than a person and no person can be lower than another person”.
Empathy - the ability to understand the inner world of another person, to penetrate into her feeling, respond to them and empathize; the ability to identify with the child, take her position, share her interests and concerns, see through the eyes of the child the problems that concern her, her relationship with other children. This ability, according to S. Kharchenko, is expressed in such characteristics as goodwill and honor for children, sensitivity and caring, interest in their life, faithfulness to their promises, emotional susceptibility.
Altruism (from Lat. Alter - another) is the principle of a person’s life orientation, according to which the good of another person is more important and significant than the good itself and personal interests. This principle is the opposite of egoism. Altruism in its content and methods of manifestation rests on the foundation of a humanistic worldview. It underlies the moral practice of such types of activities as charity, determines some personal qualities (mercy, integrity but others).
Altruistic character traits are formed by upbringing in accordance with social needs and requirements. However, it is possible that the degree of manifestation of this life position is determined by the number of natural premises.
Moral responsibility is “the quality of the personality, which is formed by the whole composition of its inner world and is expressed in involvement in social goals and tasks, in the very direction of morally liberated activities regarding their implementation on the basis of awareness and assimilation of social requirements, predicting the results of an act, choosing a method of activity, its implementation and self-esteem ”; “The totality of human needs and abilities to behave in accordance with the objective need for the immediate environment, native country, nature, labor, to support progressive world phenomena based on the display of their objectively responsible position in the megasystem.”
M. Smetansky, V. Galuzyak, associating responsibility with the professional and spiritual formation of the individual, interpret it as “a personality trait that manifests itself in the tendency to creatively and effectively fulfill their professional and social responsibilities; incentive for constant creative search for optimal ways to fulfill professional duty; the core of professional and social qualities. Its formation provides for the upbringing of moral need and practical readiness for such actions. ”
It has a connection with such moral concepts as humanism, patriotism , good faith, initiative, discipline, honesty, hardworking, creative activity, the ability to act, smart self-restraint. The responsibility of the individual necessarily provides for the implementation of self-determination and is in its ability to “realize their own actions and the need for personal contribution to society and the responsibility for them; to freely and proactively choose a goal that has socially significant content for the subject; to coordinate their intentions, capabilities and individual qualities with the requirements of a specific activity and the sphere of interaction with the social environment. ”
As impossible is altruism at the expense of others, it is impossible in the absence of freedom of choice. Responsibility for oneself and for other people turns out to be the desire to help those who need it, to perceive the pain of others on themselves, humanity, sympathy and at the same time not to make mistakes from the right path, to be an adviser and assistant to others.
Tolerance is the ability to correct your negative emotions and feelings, directing them in a constructive direction for positive motivation for subsequent cooperation.

Based on the provisions of the Code of Ethics for specialists from the social work of Ukraine, it is possible to determine the following ethical standards for the social worker who carries out volunteer work:
- always remember the interests of the person to whom assistance is provided;
- protect the rights of an individual who needs support and assistance, to contribute to its development;
- to contribute to the comprehensive harmonious and original development of the person to whom assistance is provided, its productive self-realization;
- to be friendly, attentive to work, to be able to listen;
- to place an official duty above all, to be given to his profession;
- be a model of ethical behavior, a carrier of high moral qualities;
- be able to resist the influences, remain objective, acting within the limits of their competence ;
- to leave the position of mercy, performing different roles;
- to be done with their duties as best as possible;
- strive for self-improvement, improving their professional skills;
- personally responsible for their actions;
- to preserve and protect the dignity, honor and rights of their colleagues;
- actively cooperate with other persons, organizations on which the welfare of the person to whom the services are provided but others.
In accordance with the above, volunteer work is based on:
- principles of confidentiality;
- an individual approach to each person, taking into account its needs and characteristics;
- taking into account the results of scientific research, experience and best practices of social support for people who are in difficult life circumstances;
- systematic, comprehensive, unpaid social services;
- constantly improving the professional competence of social educators and the like.
Beliefs are firmly founded on ethical standards and principles - firmly established opinions on something, a look at something. Conviction as a special quality of personality determines the general orientation of all its activities and value orientations and acts as a regulator of its consciousness and behavior. Therefore, only a person who can frankly compare his ethical principles with the ethical principles of a social worker can carry out volunteer work, act in accordance with the beliefs: people should help each other.
Volunteer work is based on the ideas of humanism, which are based on the belief in the infinity of human capabilities and its ability to improve. Humanism is understood as “a set of views that express respect for the dignity and human rights, concern for the welfare of people, their comprehensive development, and the creation of favorable conditions for public life for a person”.
“Attitude towards people is the main indicator of not only public morality, but also the morality of each of us,” he would have noted. Wulfs. - This attitude can be good or unkind, attentive or indifferent, biased or objective. It is important that it be humane. Humanism is an active philanthropy, that is, an initial belief in the positive possibilities of a person. Humanism seems to be a vector of sociality, expressed in such a quality of personality as humanity. Confident that a person becomes a person, ready for self-realization of his humanistic potential, not thanks to a passive perception of moral norms, but only through a search for himself, a humane attitude to another person.
To value in a person its unique individuality, and not only properties that are useful for one or another use, and not the originality, which is expressed in whims and secondary features, but in the main, essential quality of a holistic personality - to treat a person with humanity. To find moral values, moral orientations that integrate a personality into a single whole, to understand them in their uniqueness means to treat a person with a moral interest. Only under such conditions is the very value of another person recognized. The recognition of human dignity turns out to be both in the special relation of man to himself, and in the relation of society to it.
As noted A. Titarenko, Would. Wulfov, the affirmation of human dignity in the public and personal consciousness is possible subject to improvement, deepening of mutual understanding of people, development of sociability, friendliness - criteria for the formation of a value orientation on a person.

Rubinstein claims that “love of abstract humanity (neglect of other living people) is the worst enemy of true human love for people, you need to love humanity in the people with whom life connects, and in them you need to love humanity as it is "and the one that it will be, the one that it becomes, and with which we must make it."
Regarding volunteer work, it contributes to the formation of professional self-awareness of young people, attraction of them to the universal and professional culture, the formation of a value orientation on the Person, the establishment of positive relationships with both adults and one-year-olds, the management itself regarding the values and normative rules of society.
Summing up the current theoretical developments on the problem of volunteer and volunteer work, we note: volunteer work can be interpreted as a phenomenon of philanthropy, the basis of socialization of a person, social interaction, social exchange, social norms, self-development, self-education, self-improvement of a person, the formation of its humanistic values and a significant means of preparation youth to professional activities.
